Propelling shipping into digital age

With a view to propelling the $35-billion shipping industry, two Chhabra group companies, viz. Bombay Marine Engineering Works and Inter Ocean Ship Repairs, have promoted V2Infotech, an ISO 9001 2000 certified company which is geared to provide software solutions to the maritime industry for integrating financial and MIS systems with supply chain management, CRM, productivity improvement and job costing. "Our software solutions make shipping a more cost-effective and quality-driven industry," claims Ms. Vibha Bakshi, Managing Director.

A journalist-turned-professional IT manager, Ms. Vibha has dared to enter the male-dominated IT arena on the strength of functional expertise, technical excellence and clear vision of her father, Mr. V. S. Chhabra, the founder-Chairman of the Bombay Marine group, and her determination to succeed in business.

Says Ms. Vibha, "Although V2Infotech's focus remains on the maritime industry, its offerings are not limited to its core competency. V2i has the requisite skill matrix to deliver cutting-edge offshore assignments and customized solutions, besides creative multimedia solutions."

In order to diversify the range of its offerings, the company has tied up with Danware-Denmark, the fastest growing IT company in Denmark, for the exclusive South-East Asia rights for promoting its remote control systems, which are user-friendly. Says Ms. Vibha Bakshi, "This remote technology allows an organization to exercise complete control over the transfer of data and information across different offices, warehouses, dealers and distributors."

Of late, V2Infotech has joined hands with Microsoft for its world renowned ERP product, Navision, in order to provide cost-effective, end-to-end business solutions that are integrated, upgradeable and adaptable for SME segment. Says Ms. Vibha, " V2Infotech will be focusing its ERP capabilities on the maritime vertical. Though Microsoft has its own presence in India, V2Infotech has tied up with it exclusively for its maritime vertical. If they get any enquiry on the shipping business, they are supposed to pass it on to us," she adds.

The company has recently been appointed as an Oracle partner network member. "All these tie-ups and alliances will take V2Infotech to new heights in the coming years," maintains Ms. Vibha Bakshi.
