V2 Infotech unveils software for ship owners to comply with ISM

V2 Infotech has launched Planned Maintenance Software (PMS) targeted to ship owners worldwide. Lloyds has already approved an implementation using this software. PMS acts as a powerful tool in assisting the chief engineer in bringing the maintenance operations of the ship in with sound quality management, crucial for the safety of the crew on board as well as to prevent revenue losses to ship owners due to unexpected breakdowns. The software assists in the proactive and detailed planning of maintenance jobs; efficiently automating records, reports and instructions, monitoring maintenance and streamline information flow between the ship and the central office. It saves him the time, effort and frustration involved in locating the whereabouts of the spares and stores. PMS has been developed by a team with strong functional and technical expertise and led by Mr. Ulrik Schmidt, a member of Royal Danish Navy. As of July 1, 2002, The International Safety Management (ISM), has passed a law requiring all merchant vessels above 500 GRT to implement PMS on board in order to obtain the ISM certification. V2 Infotech incubated by the shipping conglomerates Bombay Marine Engineering Works and InterOcean Ship Repairs LLC. V2 Infotech is propelled by the vision of Group Chairman Mr. Ved S. Chhabra, and aided by Managing Director Ms. Vibha Bakshi. Strong pool of domain knowledge coupled with technical expertise, V2 Infotech focuses is not limited to its core competency in the maritime vertical. The company has also established a relationship with HT Ship a Danish company. At the launch of the NetOp, Mr. Christopher Munns, Regional Manager-Asia & Middle East, Danware, observed that the products are used allover the world for maintenance, education and training. Mr. Chhabra, Chairman, V2 Infotech agrees on NetOp's enormous potential in India with a large corporate base and a growing training and software industry. He also thought that implementation of this technology to ships can open new avenues for the product and offer remote control help desk support services to the industry. V2 Infotech is the all India distributor for Danware, one of the faster growing organizations in Denmark offering NetOp line of remote access products and NetOp School. The FBI has recently deployed it. NetOp is also in operation at Emirates Airlines.

Mr. Chhabra sees tremendous potential for these kinds of solutions to be used and in the maritime field it will find easy acceptance. V2 Infotech will soon extend NetOp solutions in Dubai as well. The solutions being developed for the shipping industry cater to the specialized needs of the business, wherein staff, equipment and facilities are either sub contracted from others or given on loan to others.

This calls for tools which facilitate efficient management and control of men and material and the building of a comprehensive knowledge base of job done, for fine tuning job estimation and cost to remain competitive.
